Suffolk welcomes new Head Women’s and Men’s Tennis Coach, Glenn Nathan!

Coach Nathan is a graduate of Suffolk Community College, and was a part of our first ever tennis team to reach the State Championship. Nathan joins us this season after 17 years of coaching at St. Josephs College. During his time at SJC, Coach Nathan accrued an impressive record of 122-72. Nathan had 5 women’s teams reach the Skyline Conference Finals, and in 2018 the team won the Conference and went on to the NCAA Championships. Coach Nathan was the first coach in SJC history to guide his men’s tennis teams to three consecutive NCAA tournaments, and the second to ever win in the first round of the tournament. Coach Nathan is also a four-time Skyline Conference Coach of the Year. Prior to this, Nathan was the Head Coach of the Women’s Tennis program at Southampton College, and men’s and women’s Assistant Coach at SUNY Old Westbury. Coach Nathan is also a local tennis pro, a board member and staff pro for The Bayport Blue Point Community Tennis Association, and former Assistant Tennis Pro at Miller Place, and Stony Brook Racquet Clubs. Nathan was also the Associate Instructor for Adelphi University Tennis Programs, as well as the Assistant Tennis Pro at Old Westbury Country Club, and Head Tennis Pro at Bellport Country Club.

In 2014, Nathan received the “Charles Karp Memorial Award for Overcoming Adversity” from the United States Tennis Association Eastern/ Long Island Region. While playing tennis for Suffolk Community College, he discovered his kidneys were failing. After adjusting with his home dialysis, he trained himself to once again play competitive tennis. Nathan attended Adelphi University where he received a partial scholarship as a walk-on to the tennis team and was named MVP in 1984, while still on dialysis. Nathan has since had 3 kidney transplants and continues to overcome these issues. Coach is looking for student-athletes with fundamental skills that can be turned into well-rounded players.
