All Region Honors Announced
Eight Players Earn Region Awards
The following players earned Region XV awards for their outstanding contribution to the 2018 Mens Lacrosse Team.
First Team Attack:
Tim Yannucci - Tim (Rocky Point HS) compiled 51 total points for the Sharks (29 G's and 22 A's). He is a two time All Region player and ranks as one of the most productive players in the country over the last two seasons. He is a coaches dream as he has the ability to run the team offense on the field. He will be missed next season.
Jake Satterley - Jake (West Babylon HS) finished the season with 36 points (27 G's and 9 A's). He is a polished dodger that has the ability to finish in tight windows. A true threat when he has the ball in his stick. Jake has the ability to make all players around him better.
First Team Midfield:
Willie Petro - Willie (Walt Whitman HS) is also a two time All Region player for the Sharks. He scored 25 points in the 2018 campaign (14 G's and 11 A's) but it's his play between the lines that will be sorely missed next year. Willie is a tremendously gifted athlete who's quiet leadership on the field will be missed most by the coaching staff.
First Team Defense:
Jonathan Joseph - J.J. (Patchogue Medford HS) finishes his career at Suffolk as one of the best defensemen in the region. A natural athlete, his ability to play both LSM and close defense made him very valuable to the team this spring. He finished the season with 2 assists, 24 groundballs and 18 caused turnovers.
Robbie Ziegler - (Sayville HS) Asides from earning First Team All Region Honors Robbie was also named this year's DMVP. A lockdown defender with both size and quickness it is easy to see how Robbie was able to cover some of the best attackmen in the country regardless of their strengths as a player. He finished the season with 30 groundballs and 13 caused turnovers.
Honorable Mention All Region:
Jon Vargas - Goalie - Jon (West Islip HS) finished his career as one of the finest goaliest in the NJCAA. A two year starter for the Sharks Jon completed the season with a 5.60 Goals Against Average one of the best in the country. Jon worked extremely hard over the past two years and has really made himself into an excellent goalie in all aspects of the position.
Ryan Glidden - Midfied - Ryan (Walt Whitman HS) had an excellent freshman season tallying 23 points for the Sharks (17 G's and 6 A's). He also did a great job on the wing during faceoffs and picked up 31 groundballs this year. He earned his reputation as having an outstanding outside shot. His flawless shooting motion is something all young players should inspire to duplicate.
Sportsmanship Award:
Elijah Gomez - Midfield - Eli (Sachem North HS) had another excellent season for the Sharks at the Faceoff "X". He won 90 faceoffs and finished the season with a 66.2% winning percentage. He finished the season with 2 points (1 G and 1 A). He has been a rock for the team over the last two years and will be deeply missed.
