Joe Kosina was named College Associate Director of Athletics in the summer of 2018, after spending six years as the Athletics Compliance Coordinator at Suffolk County Community College.  In his new role Joe will oversee the day to day operations of the athletic department and will continue all of his compliance responsibilities. Prior to his position as Athletics Compliance Coordinator, Joe served in a variety of other roles in the athletic department including: Intercollegiate and Intramurals Coordinator, college aide, student-athlete academic advisor and home game supervisor for all athletic events.  Joe also spent 10 years as the assistant baseball coach at Suffolk County Community College; from 1999-2001 and 2006-2010, 2012-2013.  During that ten year period the Suffolk County Community College Baseball Team went to three NJCAA World Series and compiled an overall record of 282-117. Joe, who graduated from Deer Park High School, is an alumnus of Suffolk County Community College and was a member of the baseball team in 1995 and 1996. He was a 1st Team All Region XV selection in 1996. Joe received his Master’s Degree in Sport Management from Ohio University in 2008. Joe is the Head Softball Coach at Suffolk a position he accepted in the spring of 2015.

Joe Kosina was named Head Softball Coach in February of 2015. His 1^st season saw the softball program finish with an overall record of 7-11 and a 3^rd place finish in Region XV after defeating two time defending Region Champion Dutchess in the 1^st round of the playoffs. The team finished with an overall cumulative GPA of 3.14 and was nominated for NJCAA Academic Team of the Year, Billie Longo was an Academic All American. Samantha Magerovich was voted 1st Team All Region while Noelle Noble and Ashley Bartnik were 2nd Team All Region Selections.

The 2016 season was a complete turnaround for the softball team as they finished the season with a record of 29-13 that included a 23-0 undefeated region record and a 27 game winning streak. The team won the Region XV Championship, District H Championship and qualified for the NJCAA Division III Women’s College World Series. Coach Kosina was voted Region XV Coach of the Year, the team had 6-1st Team All Region selections, 1-2^nd Team Selection, a 1^st Team All American Paige Baker, Region XV Player of the Year Courtney Lawrence and the team was also named Region XV Sportsmanship Award Winners voted on by the Region XV umpires. Once again the team was Honorable Mention as NJCAA Academic Team of the Year with a cumulative GPA of 3.08. Rachel Aspesi, Jamie Parente and Jessica Parente were named Academic All Americans. The team also had 8 Academic All Region Selections which requires a minimum GPA of 3.25.

2017: The softball team finished with an overall record of 26-17 including a conference record of 16-1. The team once again was Region XV and District H Champions and finshed as National Runners Up at the NJCAA World Series. Their World Series run featured wins over the #2, #3, #4 and #5 seeds in the tournament. For the 1st time in program history four members of the team were named NJCAA All-Americans: Paige Baker, Courtney Lawrence, Jamie Parente and Jessica Parente. Jessica Parente was named NFCA 1st Team All American as well as the Region XV Player of the Year. The team had 5-1st Team All Region selections and 2-2nd Team All Region selections. This year the team was again named Honorable Mention as NJCAA Academic Team of the Year with a cumulative GPA of 3.02. Jamie Parente, Jessica Parente and Maison Zumpol were named Academic All Americans and 5 members of the team were named Academic All Region. Coach Kosina was named Region XV Coach of the Year for the 2nd year in a row.

2018: The softball team finished with an overall record of 18-15 and was undefeated in region and district play going 13-0. For the 3rd consecutive season the team won the Region XV and District H Championships and qualified for their 3rd straight NJCAA World Series. At the World Series the team finished in 8th place after facing now 5-time defending World Series Champion Rock Valley College in game one and finishing the tournament 0-3. Karisa Lawrence was named Honorable Mention NFCA All American as well as being voted Region XV Player of the Year. Maison Zumpol was named Region XV Tournament MVP and was also a NJCAA Academic All American for the 2nd year in a row. Sabrina Burrus, Macy Kane, Alyssa Kelly, Cori Augustine and Meagan McClinchey were voted 1st Team All Region. Alena Thompson, Meagan McClinchey, Alyssa Kelly, Cori Augustine and Karisa Lawrence were named to the Region XV All Tournament Team. Coach Kosina was named Region XV Coach of the Year for the 3rd year in a row.

2019: The softball team finished with an overall record of 19-16 and qualified for the NJCAA D-III World Series for the 4th Year in a Row. The team also won Region XV and District H for the 4th straight season. The team finished 7th overall in the country after entering the World Series as the 8th seed for the 3rd time in 4 years. The Sharks lost game 1 to now 6-time defending Champion Rock Valley College and game 2 to Lehigh Carbon Community College. In the consolation game Suffolk beat #7 seed St. Cloud CC 6-1 for their 7th place finish. Heather Cicinnati was named NFCA, NJCAA and National Fastpitch News 1st Team All American. Dina Kessinger was named 1st team NJCAA All American. Gianna Venuti and Sabrina Burrus were named National Fastpitch News Honorable Mention All Americans. Karisa Lawrence was named Region XV Player of the Year for the 2nd year in a row. Heather Cicinnati, Gianna Venuti, Karisa Lawrence, Alena Thompson, Dina Kessinger, Bailey Rand, Delaney Kane and Jessica Laguerra were named 1st Team All Region XV. Sabrina Burrus and Chloe Johnston were named 2nd Team All Region XV. Karisa Lawrence was named Region XV Tournament MVP and her teammates: Cicinnati, Laguerra, Venuti, Burrus, Thompson and Rand were also named to the Region XV All Tournament Team. Hannah Longboat and Gianna Venuti both earned NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards. Dina Kessinger, Hannah Longboat, Gianna Venuti, Bailey Rand and Talia Perez earned Region XV Academic All Region for finishing their seasons with a GPA of at least 3.25. Coach Kosina was named Region XV Coach of the Year for the 4th Year in a row.
