Bio

Matt French is the head coach for men’s and women’s cross country (2014-present).

He was the head coach for men's and women's track & field from 1992-94, 2012-2024.

During the last fourteen academic years (2011-2024), these programs and their coaching staff have guided Suffolk's student-athletes to five national championship team titles (WXC 2019, 2015; WT&F 2019, 2016; MT&F 2016),  thirty-five national individual titles, and ninety-six individual NJCAA All-Americans. In 2007, French was the assistant coach to the women's cross country NJCAA national champions.

5x National Coach of the Year: Women's XC (2019, 2015), Women's Track & Field (2019, 2016), Men's Track & Field (2016).

 15x USTFCCCA N.E. Region Coach of the Year: Men's XC (2024, 2023, 2019, 2017), Women's XC (2023, 2018, 2015), Women's Track & Field (2024, 2023, 2022, 2019, 2016), Men's Track & Field (2024, 2018, 2016).

 13x Region XV Coach of the Year: Men's XC (2024, 2023, 2022, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015), Women's XC (2023, 2021, 2019, 2018, 2015).

French is a Professional Assistant for the Physical Education Department at the Ammerman Campus. He was a national-caliber junior-college athlete and member of the 1985 Region XV championship cross country team at Suffolk, as well as an All-County runner at Longwood High School. French received his BA in English from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where he was a member of the Salukis' NCAA Division I cross country team.
