Softball wins 4th Straight Region XV Championship
The softball team won its 4th consecutive Region XV Championship over the weekend by defeating #2 seed Dutchess CC by scores of 11-1 and 15-2. Tournament MVP and now 2-time Region XV Player of the Year Karisa Lawrence started and won both games in the circle throwing 11 innings of 5 hit ball allowing 1 earned run while stiking out 15. The offense was led by Jessica Laguerra who went 7 for 7 during the double header with 4 doubles, 4 runs scored and 4 RBI's. Sabrina Burrus was 6 for 8 with a home run and 5 RBIs, Heather Cicinnati was 3 for 5 in game 2 with 3 runs scored, Bailey Rand was 4 for 6 with RBI's in the 2 games and Gianna Venuti was 3 for 5 in game 1 with a double, triple and 3 RBIs. Hannah Longboat came in to close out both games to help seal the deal for the Sharks.
In addition to Lawrence being named the Tournament MVP, fellow teammates Alena Thompson, Sabrina Burrus, Jessica Laguerra, Heather Cicinnati, Bailey Rand and Gianna Venuti were all named to the All Tournament Team.
Prior to the tournament, All Region selections were named and the list was loaded with Sharks. 1st team All Region Selections were Karisa Lawrence, Gianna Venuti, Heather Cicinnati, Bailey Rand, Dina Kessinger, Delaney Kane, Jessica Laguerra and Alena Thompson. Sabrina Burrus and Chloe Johnston were named 2nd Team All Region selections. Coach Kosina was voted Region XV Coach of the Year for the 4th year in a row.
Up next for the Sharks is a matchup with Region XX winner Westmoreland Community College in a best of 3 series hosted on the Grant Campus in Brentwood beginning at 12:00 on Saturday May 11th. Come support your Sharks as they look to head to the NJCAA World Series for the 4th consecutive year.
