Softball wins 3rd Straight Region XV Title
The Suffolk Softball Team won their 3rd consecutive Region XV Championship on Saturday by beating Nassau in a 2 out of 3 series by scores of 6-0 and 20-2.
In game 1 Region XV Player of the Year Karisa Lawrence threw a complete game 5 hit shutout with 11 strikeouts. Alena Thompson went 2 for 3 with a run scored 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Sabrina Burrus hit a solo home run and Tournament MVP Maison Zumpol was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a sensational home run saving catch that had her tumble over the fence in left center field.
Game 2 was all about the Suffolk offense and reigning Region XV Pitcher of the Year Cori Augustine in the circle. Augustine threw a complete game 4 hitter with 9 strikeouts while giving up 2 unearned runs, she was also 3 for 3 at the plate with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Hazel Hernandez was 3 for 4 with 5 RBIs, Alena Thompson was 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored and an RBI, Maison Zumpol was 4 for 4 with 5 runs scored and Meagan McClinchey was 4 for 4 with 5 runs scored and 5 RBIs that included a Grand Slam.
For winning the tournament the Sharks had 6 members on the All Tournament Team: Maison Zumpol- MVP, Karisa Lawrence, Alena Thompson, Cori Augustine, Meagan McClinchey and Alyssa Kelly.
Now Suffolk goes on the road to play in the District H Championship. Their 1st game will be on Saturday May 5th against Butler Community College, if the team loses they head home if they win they move on to the winner's bracket game at 2:00 against the winner of Anne Arundel and Massasoit.
