NJCAA announces softball All Americans
The 2nd place showing at the 2017 World Series garnered some respect for the softball program as they had four student-athletes named 2nd Team All Americans by the National Junior College Athletic Association, the most in program history. The four student-athletes are listed below along with their highlights from their two seasons competing at Suffolk.
Paige Baker became the 1st two-time softball All American at Suffolk. For her career at Suffolk, in 68 games Paige finished with a .488 batting average (she hit .588 in 2016 2nd among NJCAA D-III student-athletes), 10 home runs, 92 RBI's, 106 hits, 73 runs scored and only 11 strikeouts in 217 at bats.
Jessica Parente was named to the NJCAA 2nd team after receiving 1st Team All American honors by the NFCA and the Region XV Player of the Year. In Jess' two seasons at Suffolk, in 76 games, she finished with a .494 batting average, 120 hits, 98 runs scored, 71 RBI's and only 7 strikeouts in 243 at bats.
Jamie Parente was named 2nd Team All American and was an All Tournament Team selection at the 2017 NJCAA World Series. In Jamie's two seasons at Suffolk, in 78 games, she finished with a .433 batting average, 90 hits, 69 runs scored in 208 at bats all while playing 2B, SS, LF, CF and RF over the course of two years.
Courtney Lawrence was also named 2nd Team All American and won her 2nd straight Region XV Tournament MVP. Offensively Courtney finished her two seasons at Suffolk, in 81 games with a .418 batting average, 115 hits, 91 runs scored, 80 RBI's and 14 triples ( she led all NJCAA D-III student athletes with 10 in 2016) in 275 at bats. In the circle, Courtney finished with a record of 32-13 with 4 saves. In 270 innings pitched she struck out 215 hitters with a 3.09 earned run average. Courtney was also the 2016 Region XV Player of the Year.
