Softball back to World Series
Softball Repeats as District H Champs
The Suffolk CC Softball Team is heading back to the NJCAA World Series in Rochester, Minnesota. Behind the pitching of Cori Augustine and Courtney Lawrence plus a pair of 18 hit attacks in each game the Sharks easily swept the Pioneers of Butler County CC, 9-3 and 11-1.
Both Augustine and Lawrence threw complete games holding the Pioneers and their .470 team batting average coming into the District H Championship to 7 hits and 5 hits respectively.
Game 1 the Sharks got off to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st after singles by the Parente sisters, a sacrifice bunt by Lawrence, and a no doubt 3 run home run by Paige Baker. The hitting did not stop there as every member of the starting lineup had at least 1 hit and the team did not strike out at all. Jess Parente, Paige Baker, Jackie Chester, Laura Galligan, Cori Augustine and Maison Zumpol all had multiple hits and Zumpol hit her 1st home run of the season.
Game 2 was much of the same as 8 of the 9 starters had hits and every student-athlete scored at least 1 run. Courtney Lawrence, Paige Baker, Jackie Chester (4 for 4), Laura Galligan, Cori Augustine (4 for 4) and Maison Zumpol all had multiple hits in this game. Maison Zumpol continued her power hitting display with a line drive 2 run home run to left and then a 2 run home run to straight away center to finish the scoring for the Sharks in the 11-1 Championship clincher.
Now the Sharks await seeding for the World Series and their next opponent. The World Series begins on Thursday May 18th and concludes on Saturday May 20th.
