Softball Repeats as Region XV Champions
The Suffolk Softball Team defended their Region XV Championship this weekend with wins over Queensborough CC, Nassau CC and finally Dutchess CC. The Sharks were the number 1 seed in the tournament after finishing their region schedule with a 11-1 record, they are now 37-1 in the region over the past 2 seasons.
In the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon the Sharks used a 10 run 4th inning to beat #4 Queensborough CC 12-1.
The semi-final matchup was against #2 Nassau CC the only team in Region XV to beat the Sharks this season. Suffolk got off to a 4-0 lead through 5, but Nassau struck with 3 in the 6th and 2 more in the top of the 7th to take a 5-4 lead. The Sharks were down to their final 2 outs when they loaded the bases and got back to back singles for a 6-5 walk off win.
Saturday's Championship game was a matchup with #3 Dutchess CC. Suffolk had an early 2-0 lead that Dutchess cut in half in the 4th, but Suffolk tacked on 2 more runs for a 4-1 final to win their 2nd consecutive Region XV Championship.
Jessica Parente, Cori Augustine, Paige Baker and Laura Galligan were named to the All Tournament Team.
Courtney Lawrence was named Tournament MVP for the 2nd year in a row.
The Sharks now advance to the District H Championship on Saturday May 6th with a best of 3 home matchup with Region XX winner Butler Community College. The 1st game on Saturday is scheduled for 1:00 on the Grant Campus.
