2017 softball preview
Lady Sharks looking to defend Region XV title
The Suffolk softball team began practice last week as they embark on defending their Region XV and District H Championships. After a fall semester in which the team finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 they are ready to get working both on the field and in the classroom again.
The Lady Sharks are bringing back 8 members from last year's team including 1st Team All Region selections Jamie Parente and Jessica Parente, to go along with 1st Team NJCAA All American Paige Baker and Region XV MVP Courtney Lawrence. The remaining members are highlighted by last season's starters Jackie Chester, Sandra Lombardi, Sabrina Bencivenga and Laura Galligan. The sophomores will need to lean on some incoming freshmen to help them to defend their titles.
Among the incoming freshmen are 3 members from Patchogue-Medford's graduating class, Maison Zumpol, Cori Augustine and Meagan McClinchey. Also joining this year's team are freshmen Juliana Gamble (Centereach HS), Amanda Hanley (Commack HS) and Lizzie Motis (Massapequa HS). The Lady Sharks also expect to receive contributions from transfer Anna Collins (Westhampton Beach HS).
The season begins with a trip to Cocoa Beach against some very good competition from the D-II and D-III JUCO ranks. All scores and stats will be updated throughout the season on our athletics website.
