Bio

Head Coach Pete Blumenauer enters his 1st year as the Head Baseball Coach at Suffolk County Community College. Coach Blumenauer began his coaching career as a high school assistant coach at his alma mater at Bay Shore High School and Amityville High School before becoming the Varsity Head Coach at Islip High School.

At the helm of Islip for 11 years over two separate stints, Coach Blumenauer guided the Buccaneers to unprecedented success, winning the New York State Championship in 2007 and finishing runner-up in the State Championship in 2008, capturing the Long Island Championship in both seasons. For his efforts he was named the New York State Sportswriters Association Coach of the Year in 2007 and was named the Suffolk County High School Coach of the Year for three straight seasons from 2007-2009, as he guided the Bucs to back-to back-to-back Suffolk County Championships. Through his tutelage at Islip over 30 former players continued their careers at the collegiate level and two went on to play professionally after being drafted by MLB organizations.

In between stints at Islip, Coach Blumenauer had his first collegiate coaching experience, serving as an assistant coach at Suffolk Community College from 2012 to 2013 and at Adelphi University from 2013 to 2014. While at Suffolk, he helped a squad that won the regular season championship and were NJCAA Region 15 finalists. The following season he helped Adelphi reach the Northeast-10 Championship for the first time in four years before finishing as finalists. After stops at Eastport-South Manor and Sayville, Coach Blumenauer returned to Islip to take the helm in 2016.

After one season back in Islip, Coach Blumenauer was named the Head Baseball Coach at St. Joseph’s Brooklyn University in the Division 3 Skyline Conference. Coach Blumenauer would serve as Head Coach for six seasons at St. Joseph’s, which is the longest tenure in program history. During his time, he mentored 4 All-Conference players, including Suffolk County Community College Alumnus Anthony Palermo, who was First Team All-Skyline in 2019. Palermo would go on to have his rights selected by the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball in 2021.

On the summer collegiate scene, Coach Blumenauer has been coaching for the last 15 years on the local circuit including stints in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League, Suffolk County Stan Musial, Boys of Summer Collegiate League and the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League. Over the past two summers, Coach Blumenauer has been the Head Coach of the Atlantic Whitecaps in the ACBL, in 2022 the White Caps were the regular season WOLFF Division Champions and Blumenauer was named the Manager of the ACBL Wolff All-Star Team. In the summer of 2023 the White Caps won the ACBL Wolff Division Championship and the overall ACBL Championship.

Coach Blumenauer works in Student Services at Islip High School. He and his wife, Kerry, and their two children (Peter and Sophia) live in Islip Terrace.
